The General Assembly of the European Association of the Via Francigena (EAVF) took place in Roma on 6–7–8 November, with over 150 participants: institutional representatives, local administrations, members and partners of the Association from Italy, England, France, and Switzerland, the four countries crossed by the route. The event, supported and co-organised by Roma Capitale, featured meetings dedicated to key topics such as the route, signposting, and hospitality, as well as an assembly session held at the Ara Pacis Museum.
On Saturday, 8 November, an EAVF delegation attended an audience with Pope Leo XIV, presenting a symbolic statue, while another group walked the final 5 km of the Monte Ciocci–Piazza San Pietro cycling and walking variant, concluding with a guided tour of Basilica di San Pietro.
During the assembly, central issues were discussed, including progress on the Via Francigena’s UNESCO World Heritage nomination, the 2026–2028 Strategic Plan, collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, and the addition of new members. It was an important moment of exchange at the European level, highlighting the sharing of good practices and the growth of the network along the entire Via Francigena route.
